Dear Santa,

Before we really get started here, I'm just gonna point out that I think it's only fair that you judge me compared to how I normally behave, because on a relative scale I've been almost staggeringly good this year.

With that out of the way, I need a new coffee maker and I want a copy of Orpheé. I could always use more strings and picks, and I definitely wouldn't say no to a new Marshall tube amp. More records are always cool too. My cat would probably like a catnip mouse and something he can scratch the hell out of without me yelling at him. I would also like to find a drummer and for my boyfriend to dominate me, but you probably can't do anything about that.

In the mood for music? You can pick, if you want.

[Curt moves to fill the glasses. He knows he's maybe not the best judge of sitting and drinking wine type music.]

I think I'm fine.

[To be honest, he's not really sure if any 'sitting and drinking wine' type music is what he really wants to listen too. Sounds too mellow.]

Okay, sure. We don't have to have music.

[Although Curt listens to music about 80% of the time that he's not asleep or in the process of making music. Curt hands Stephen a glass and heads for the couch.]

[Stephen follows him to the couch. This suddenly feels a lot more date-like than their usual. Fuck, should he have said yes to the music? Why does this not come with a guidebook...]

[Curt senses some awkwardness from Stephen, but then that's not necessarily a lot different from usual. Curt slouches back against the armrest and flips his legs into Stephen's lap.]

So. What's up in Stephen Stills Land?

[A non-awkward Stephen is a rare sight indeed. Like a unicorn. He rests his hands over Curt's legs with ease, though. Little shows of affection like that have always come easily to him.]

The same as usual, I think. Nothing that interesting really happens to me.

[Curt gives him a slightly skeptical look.]

Is that a good thing?

Considering the alternative, I think so, yeah. I'll take uninteresting over 'werewolf', for sure.

Well, yeah. 'Course. I can't handle bored, though. With the album done...I dunno, maybe I need a new project.

Like a second album?

I don't know if I'm in the right mindset for writing new stuff. Plus, I mean, we just finished. But I don't know what else we can really do, I mean, it's not like we can go on tour.

It really drives you nuts, doesn't it? Being stuck?

[Curt sighs, but is clearly actually thinking about it pretty hard.

Sometimes. Not all the time, and it's not like I've never lived in one place for a while. I guess it's been good for me, but I it coulda gone the other way too.

[Stephen's hands grip a little tighter around his legs. He's never been a big talker, but he likes to let him know he gets what he's saying.]

So what kind of project were you thinking?

[Curt shrugs.]

I need to find more people who are doing interesting things.

Yeah, not really a shortage of those in this place.

Wait, I think I need to rephrase that. People who are doing interesting thins on purpose.

[Stephen laughs.]

Okay, yeah. I can see how that might be a bit trickier.

Not that there aren't tons of interesting people, which is great, but they're not...there's not a scene.

Scene?

Considering you weren't even born in the 70s I'm not sure how well I can really explain. There was a whole community of people trying crazy new things. Here...it's too temporary and everyone's too different, it's kind of a miracle anything even functions I guess.

Yeah, that does sound kind of amazing. I guess I'm kind of used to it being more like this? I don't think I know anyone who feels like they're doing anything original back home. Everyone just kind of flails around and you just hope what you're doing is going to be meaningful to someone.

[He's finished his wine, so he stashes his glass on the side table and scoots in until he's tucked in next to him against the couch back.]

[Curt shifts to get his arm in a more comfortable position, and it is totally coincidental if that position is very close to 'nearly groping'.]

I always want to be on the edge of things.

[Coincidental. Sure. Not that he minds. At all.]

Sounds kinda lonely.

I mean on the cutting edge, which is lonely, I guess, if you're one of the only ones.
